The Delhi Police have apprehended a 59-year-old man on charges of involvement in espionage activities. These activities reportedly include connections with a foreign nuclear scientist and a fake passport racket operating from Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. An official disclosed this information on Tuesday.
The suspect has been identified as Mohammad Adil Hussaini, who is also known by the names Syed Adil Hussain and Naseemuddin. He was arrested two days ago in Seemapuri, Delhi.
According to police sources, the accused had been in contact with a nuclear scientist residing abroad and had traveled to several countries, including Pakistan. It is alleged that he used forged documents to obtain three identification cards from a sensitive establishment.
Details of the Investigation
The police have confirmed that Adil is a resident of Tata Nagar in Jamshedpur. Additional Police Commissioner (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwaha stated that Adil and his brother Akhtar Hussaini are suspected of providing sensitive information to foreign nations and acquiring multiple Indian passports using counterfeit documents.
The entire network was reportedly operating from Jamshedpur, where fake identification cards and passports were being produced with the help of forged documents.
Seizures and Legal Proceedings
During a search, authorities seized one genuine and two counterfeit passports from Adil's possession. He was arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), 318 (fraud), 338 (forgery of valuable securities), and 340 (creating and using forged documents or electronic records).
A senior police official revealed that Mumbai police have also arrested Adil's brother Akhtar, who had traveled to several Gulf countries and allegedly obtained three identification cards from a confidential center using fake documents. The investigation team is working to determine how many individuals received fake passports through this network.
Kushwaha mentioned that Adil has been presented in court, which has granted police custody for seven days for further questioning.
